materials for children

All children's materials are located on the library's main floor. Books, movies, audiobooks, and even board books are available to check out.

Our librarians have color coded books to help caregivers and children choose the right books for appropriate reading levels. Please ask our librarians if you would like any help selecting the best books for your child to read.

Not comfortable coming into the library right now due to the COVID-19 virus? Let us pack a bundle for you to pick up! Fill out a request and we will call you when your bundle is ready to pick up. Pickup can happen inside the libray, at the drive-thru window or you can use our contactless curbside service.

1,000 books before kindergarten

We invite you to participate in this free program which encourages you to read 1,000 books with your child before he or she starts kindergarten. Register here or sign up at the library.

How it works:

  • Visit the library to pick up reading logs or download the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten App from the Google Play Store or iTunes.
  • Color in a circle on the log for every book you read.
  • After reading 100 books, bring your reading log to the library to collect your first prize!
  • After reading 500 books, bring your reading logs to the library to collect your second prize!
  • When you reach 1,000 books your child will receive a certificate and a t-shirt that says “I read 1,000 Books before Kindergarten” sponsored by Allen Aircraft of Ravenna

FAQ

  • Who can participate in this program? Any child from birth until he or she enters kindergarten can participate in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program.
  • Help! I don't know which books to read! The children's staff will gladly help you pick some books.
  • If you read three books a day to your child in just one year you'll have read 1,095 books! And you have several years to complete the program.
  • What if my child wants to read the same book over and over? Repetition is key to learning. Each time you read a book, it counts. If you read the same book 5 times, color 5 circles.
  • Can I log the books my child hears in story time? Yes! Any and every book your child hears counts for this program.
