materials for the blind & physically handicapped

Reed Memorial is the lending agency for the National Library Service (NLS) for the Blind and Print Disabled in Portage County. The NLS publishes thousands of books and magazines, provided in audio, braille, tapes and downloadable books to eligible residents. They also supply the equipment needed to play the tapes. To qualify, you must have the following limitations: blindness, low vision, or inability to hold a book. In some cases, people with a reading disability qualify.

Full length books and magazines are available in audio and in Braille for all age levels and on a wide variety of subjects. These materials can be borrowed free of charge. The same popular titles that are at your local public library are available in talking books, professionally narrated, and can be mailed to and from your home, postage free.

If you are interested in the talking book program, call or email the Outreach Librarian, 330-296-2827 x503

Our library also has some braille books and reading material, available in our local history room. See a librarian on the second floor to locate these items.
