From the January 6, 1951 minutes of the library board " ...gift of a beautiful grandfather's clock for the Children's Room of the library by the late Mrs. A. S. Cole." Lorena Reed Cole (1868-1950) was the daughter of Cornelius Reed, for whom the library is named and who provided the incentive to build the original library in the 1920's. Her husband, Augustus Cole, was Mayor of Ravenna from 1890 to 1899.
The clock is attributed to Stephen Taber (1777-1862), a clockmaker from New Bedford, Massachusetts, and dates to circa 1820. It still maintains time beautifully and is wound once a week. It chimes on the hour and half hour, and tracks the phases of the moon. The children of Ravenna have taken very good care of it for many years. The clock is located on the first floor in the children's area.
